| producer | an organism that makes food and energy for other organisms ;heterotroph |
| consumer | eats other organisms;autotroph |
| heterotroph | eats organis compounds to grow |
| autotroph | an organism that makes own food from carbon dioxide |
| symbiosis | close association between 2 or more species that live together |
| commensalism | one organism benefits but the host is not affected by the organisms actions |
| mutualism | both organisms benefit from each other |
| parasitism | the parasite will get a benefit from the host and the host is harmed |
| primary succession | change in an ecosystem when one community replaces another as a result of changing biotic and abiotic factors can be primary or secondary starts out with no soil like a rocky or volcano area after a very long time of animals decomposing |
| secondary succession | like primary succession but it has soil and it will come first rather than primary succession |
| pioneer species | a species that lives without any type of soil example lichens that do not need toil to survive |
