Digestion

TermDefinition
Amylase An enzyme that converts starch into maltose.
Protease An enzyme that breaks down proteins into amino acids.
Lipase An enzyme that breaks lipids down into fatty acids and glycerol.

Lactase An enzyme used to transform lactose into sugar.
Stomach Protein breakdown occurs here and hydrochloric acid is released.
Broken down food chyme
Small intestine Fat break down, absorption, and assimilation occur here. Several enzymes other than lipase are released here too.
Large intestine Water and mineral reabsorption occurs here.
Vili The structure through which nutrients are absorbed into the blood stream.
Anus Excretion of undigested material occurs here.
