Bio Vocab 2 - Scientific Investigation

| variable | anything that can affect an experiment or outcome |
| one | number of varibles that can be tested at a time |
| scientific method | steps to answer a scientific question |
| independent variable | the variable changed by the experimentor to observe the results |
| dependent variable | the variable that is measured |
| control group | group that is not tested ,but used only to compare. |
| experimental group | the group that is tested/experimented on |
| quantitative | data is numerical, like time, number of, or mass. |
| hypothesis | guess or prediction |
| experiment | process used to test hypothesis |
| theory | an idea with that has a lot of data to support it, but its not a proven fact. |
| law | a statement based on repeated experimental observations, observed in nature |
| qualitative | data describing the quality , like appearance, color, or movement, or smell |
| experimental error | weakens a scientific study, can be due to inaccurate measurements, faulty tools, improper set up |
| model | tools for representing ideas and explanations, can be diagrams, drawings, physical replicas, mathematical representations, or simulations. |
| phenomenom | a fact or situation that is observed to exist or happen, especially one whose cause or explanation is in question. |
