| Allele | An alternate form of gene with a different base sequence. |
| Gene | A factor that is inherited and controls specific physical characteristics. |
| Genome | The whole of the genetic information. |
| Locus | A specific location on a chromosome where the gene is located. |
| Dominant Allele | If present at all it will show as a physical trait. |
| Recessive Allele | Shows is a dominant allele is not present, two recessive alleles create a dominant allele. |
| Diploid | A cell / organism that has two sets of chromosomes, during the diploid state haploid numbers double. |
| Haploid | The amount of chromosomes an organism has in its gamete (sex cell). |
| Autosomes | Any chromosome that is not a sex chromosome, 22 out of humans 23 pairs of chromosomes are autosomes. |
| Genotype | Genetic makeup of a living organism. |
| Phenotype | Physical appearance of expressed genes. |
| Sex Linked Trait | A trait genetically determined by an allele located on a sex chromosome. |
| Homologous Chromosomes | Chromosomes that contain the same genes, chromosomes, and loci. |
| Sex Chromosomes | A type of chromosome that deter mains sex and sexual characteristics. |
