Membrane Structure and Function

Principles of diffusion 3. diffusion will continue until the concentration gradient is eliminated.
Principles of diffusion 4. Diffusion cannot move molecules rapidly over long distances.
Types of Transports: Simple No ATP/Passive NO proteins
Types of Transports: Facilitated NO ATP/Passive YES proteins
Types of Transports: Osmosis NO ATP/ Passive YES AND NO Proteins
Types of Transports: Active Active/ ATP (None of the transport proteins but other membrane proteins.
Endocytosis To take something into the cell.
Pinocytosis "drinking in" liquids being brought into cell other than water
Phagocytosis "to engulf" to bring really large molecules into cell
Receptor-mediated using proteins to surround molecules to get them into cell
HYpotonic lower amount of solute than solution NO balance achieved
Hypertonic greater amount of solute than solution NO balance achieved
Isotonic equal amount of solute on both sides of membrane. balance IS achieved.
