DNA and Protein Syn
DNA and Protein Synthesis
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| DNA | Deoxyribose Sugar In all living things Stores information |
| Nucleotide | Base units of DNA Phosphate, Deoxyribose sugar, and Nitrogenous base |
| Nitrogen Bases (A, T, C, G, U) | Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, Guanine, and Uracil |
| Double Helix | 2 strands wrapped around each other |
| DNA Replication (3 steps) | Process of copying DNA 2 Processes use this Mitosis and Meiosis 1. Enzyme breaks down DNA strand 2. Each new strand will get a complimentary base 3. DNA rewinds into a double helix strand |
| DNA polymerase | Enzyme that breaks down the DNA strand |
| Protein Synthesis | Proteins made up of several amino acids 2 steps 1. Transcription 2. Translation |
| RNA | Ribonucleic Acid Singe stranded 3 Nitrogen Bases Adenine Cytosine Guanine Uracil |
| Messenger RNA | Carries message as a codon |
| Ribosomal RNA | Ribosome RNA |
| Transfer RNA | Brings amino acids to build proteins |
| Transcription | The production of complimentary RNA copy from a DNA template. |
| RNA Polymerase | Enzyme that builds the new RNA strand |
| Codon | Has amino acids in it. Carried by messenger RNA. |
| Translation | The use of the mRNA codons to produce proteins. |
| Anti-Codon | Nitrogen pari to Codons |
