Inflammation and NSA

Indomethacin Acetic acids: 20-30x more potent then ASA, for rheumatic arthritis. High incidence of side effects
Sulindac Acetic acids: Good efficacy, renal sparing (metabolism).
Acetic Acids Sulindac, Indomethacin
Ibuprofen Propionic acid: Rheumatoid arthritis, dysmenorrhea. Accumulates in synovial fluid.
Naproxen Propionic acid: Rheumatoid arthritis, gout. 10-20x more potent than ASA.
Propionic acid Naproxen, Ibuprofen
Oxicams Piroxicam, Meloxicam
Piroxicam Long half-life (30-80hours). Entero-heaptic circulation. As strong as indomethacin, better patient compliance.
Meloxicam Similar to Piroxicam.
Para-aminophenol Acetaminophen, Mesoprostol
Acetaminophen Not a Cox inhibitor. Unknown mechanism. Derived from coal tar.
Mesoprostol PGE2 analogue. (used to prevent stomach acidity build up).
