| Natural Selection | a natural process resulting in the evolution of organisms best adapted to the environment |
| Evolution | a gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form. |
| Artificial Selection | human intervention in animal or plant reproduction to ensure that certain desirable traits are represented in future generations. |
| Variation | Individuals in a population differ from one another. |
| Heritability | Variations are inherited from parents. |
| Overproduction | Populations produce more offspring than can survive. |
| Reproductive Advantage | Some variations allow the organism that possesses them to have more offspring than the organism that does not possess them. |
| Fitness | The condition of being physically fit and healthy |
| Adaptation | A change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment. |
