| natural selection | the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring |

| 4 principles of natural selection #1 | 1. All populations of organisms, no matter how similar, will have genetic variations |
| 2nd principle of selection | 2. The environment creates obstacles that challenge the creation of new offspring. |
| 3rd principle of selection | 3. Individual organisms that are more suited for survival in their environment will produce more offspring than those that are not |
| 4th principle of selection | 4. Individual organisms will produce more offspring than their environment can support and these offspring will struggle for the right to keep living. |
