What are elytra? A beetle's front pair of wings that are not used for flying but for protection

Beetles are mostly nocturnal. What does nocturnal mean? It means that they are most active at night.
What type of metamorphosis do beetles go through? complete
All scarab beetles are alike in one way--what is that? Their antennae end in little clubs that can open and close
What is the largest type of scarab beetle named? Goliath beetle (can be up to 6 inches long)
Fireflies are bioluminescent. What does that mean? They are able to produce their own light.
What are 3 reasons that fireflies flash their lights? to attract a mate, to warn other fireflies of danger, and to warn predators that they are not a tasty meal
Are ladybugs a type of beetle or a type of fly? beetle
What is interesting about the wings of a fly? Flies have 2 wings and 2 small halteres that look like tiny wings but are used for balance instead.
What is the larvae of flies called? maggots
Do male or female mosquitoes drink the blood of warm blooded animals? female
What do robber flies look and act like in order scare off predators? bees or wasps
What makes a bug a bug? All bugs have sucking mouths to drink the juices of other insects or plants.
What do true bugs' wings look like when they are closed on their backs? They close in either an X or a V shape on their backs.
