|---|---|
| codon | A three-nucleotide sequence in mRNA that encodes an amino acid or signifies a start or stop signal |
| anticodon | Three nucleotides on a tRNA that are complementary to the sequence of a codon in mRNA |
| transcription | The process where DNA acts as a template for the synthesis of RNA |
| translation | The process in which RNA directs the assembly of proteins |
| mutation | A change in the nucleotide sequence of a DNA molecule |
| frameshift mutation | Result of insertion/deletion, entire frame of genetic information altered |
| insertion | Type of mutation where an additional base is put into the sequence |
| substitution | Type of mutation where one base is replaced by another. |
| deletion | Type of mutation where one base is removed from the sequence |
| tRNA | Type of RNA that delivers amino acids to make a protein. |
