codon A three-nucleotide sequence in mRNA that encodes an amino acid or signifies a start or stop signal
anticodon Three nucleotides on a tRNA that are complementary to the sequence of a codon in mRNA
transcription The process where DNA acts as a template for the synthesis of RNA
translation The process in which RNA directs the assembly of proteins
mutation A change in the nucleotide sequence of a DNA molecule
frameshift mutation Result of insertion/deletion, entire frame of genetic information altered
insertion Type of mutation where an additional base is put into the sequence
substitution Type of mutation where one base is replaced by another.
deletion Type of mutation where one base is removed from the sequence
tRNA Type of RNA that delivers amino acids to make a protein.
