Mechanical Digestion Teeth, tongue, stomach => chew,mix,churn
Chemical Digestion Enzymes break down food through chemical reactions
Enzyme Protein speeds up rate of chemical reaction
Epiglottis At the back of the tongue, covers the windpipe
Esophagus Connects the mouth to the stomach
Peristalsis Squeezing action of smooth muscles in esophagus, stomach, and small intestine
Liver This is where Bile is made.
Pancreas Adds enzymes to stomach
Villi Folds in small intestine that absorb nutrients finger like projection. they increase surface are for absorption , they have thin walls surrounded by blood capillaries. There are lots of them.
Large Intestine Absorbs water from undigested materials
Bacteria Help make vitamins K and B
ingestion process of taking food into the body
Absorption The process by which nutrient molecules pass through the wall of the digestive system into the blood.
Peristalsis Involuntary waves of muscle contraction that keep food moving along in one direction through the digestive system.
Gallbladder This stores bile and transfers it to the small intestine.
