| Cell Membrane | the outer covering of the cell |
| Cytoplasm | the gelatin-like material of the cell |
| Cell Wall | tough, rigid outer coverings that protect the cell and give it shape |
| Organelle | the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell |
| Nucleus | directs all cell activities and is separated from the cytoplasm by a membrane |
| Chloroplast | food that is made into green organelles in the cytoplasm |
| Mitochondria | are organelles where energy is released from breaking down food into carbon dioxide and water |
| Ribosome | proteins on small structures |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | extends from the nucleus to the cell membrane, transports protein Smooth: lacks ribosomes Rough: ribosomes embedded in surface |
| Golgi Bodies | are stacked, flattened membranes |
| Tissue | a group of similar cells that work together to do one job |
| Organ | a structure made up of two or more different types of tissues work together |
| Cell Theory | the basic unit of organization in organisms |
| Virus | is a stand of hereditary material surrounded by a protein coating |
| Host Cell | a crystallized form of some viruses can be stored for years |
