| Breathing | the movement of the chest that brings air into the lungs & removes waste gases. |
| Respiration | when oxygen is brought into the cells and burned to release energy. |
| Nostrils | openings where air enters the body |
| Pharynx | the back of your throat where food, liquid & air pass through. |
| Epiglottis | flap that prevents food/liquid from entering your trachea. |
| Larynx | the voice box, that creates vibrations producing sounds. |
| Trachea | long tube surrounded by rings of cartilage that connects the larynx & bronchi. |
| Bronchi | two tubes that branch off of the trachea to each of the lungs |
| Bronchioles | smallest of tubes in the lungs |
| Alveoli | clusters of sacs surrounded by capillaries that exchange oxygen & carbon dioxide |
| Diaphragm | muscle under your lungs that contracts & relaxes allowing air to move in & out of the lungs. |
