Fungus Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Fungus An organism whose cells have a nucleus (are eukaryotic), have a cell wall, but no chlorophyll; belong to the kindgom fungi
Hypha A nonreproductive filament (part) of a fungus; combines to form mycelium
Mycelium A mass of hyphae that form the body of a fungus; most is underground
Spore A reproductive cell
Lichens A beneficial relationship between a FUNGUS and ALGAE, usually found on rocks or trees; considered a pioneer species

Example of club fungi Mushroom
Example of sac fungi Truffle
Example of non-mushroom club fungi Puffball
