Chapter A2 Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
cell membrane Surrounds the cell, holding the parts of the cell together. Allows materials to pass in and out of the cell.
nucleus The part of the cell that contains chromosomes.
vacuoles can sometimes act like a stomach, storing and breaking down materials
Cytoplasm The jellylike material of the cell between the cell membrane and the nucleus.
chloroplasts found in plant cells...use sunlight to turn water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and sugar. They give plants their green color.
cell wall surrounds the cell membrane, giving plants extra support and protection.
tissue a group of the same kind of cells working together doing the same job.
organ a group of different tissues combined together into one structure.
organ system a group of organs and tissues that work together to carry out a life process.
