Survey of Organ Systems: Pig Dissection

What is the function of the larynx? acts as the "voice box"
What is the function of the trachea? carries air from pharynx to the bronchi and into the lungs
What is the function of the common carotid artery? supplies the neck and head with oxygenated blood
What is the function of the internal jugular vein? drains blood from body organs and parts (brain, face, neck)
What is the function of the external jugular vein? receives blood from neck, cranium, and face and empties it into the subclavian veins
What is the function of the ductus arteriosus? connects the pulmonary circulation to the systemic aorta
What is the function of the lung? takes in oxygen from the air and removes carbon dioxide
What is the function of the aorta? carries and distributes oxygen rich blood to arteries (major arteries branch off the aorta)
What is the function of the renal vein? drain blood from the kidneys into the rena cava
What is the function of the renal artery? takes blood into the kidney
What is the function of the kidney? removes waste products from the blood and regulates water fluid levels
What is the function of the ovary? reproductive organ that produces female gametes
What is the function of the oviduct? carries eggs from the ovary to the uterus
What is the function of the uterus? where the egg/fetus grows and develops
What is the function of the ureter? connects the kidneys to the urinary bladder (tubes that carry urine)
What is the function of the urethra? carries urine (and semen) out of the body
What is the function of the vagina? sex organ that carries sperm to the uterus and fallopian tubes
What is the function of the urinary bladder? stores urine from the kidneys before urination occurs
What is the function of the large intestine? absorb water from the remaining indigestible food matter and transmit the useless waste material from the body
What is the function of the gall bladder? store and concentrate bile, a yellow-brown digestive liquid produced by the liver.
What is the function of the liver? filter the blood coming from the digestive tract, before passing it to the rest of the body. The liver also detoxifies chemicals and metabolizes drugs.
