DNA Replication
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| DNA Replication | Process of making an identical copy of the parental strand of DNA. It happens in the nucleus of the cell. |
| Parental DNA | Original double stranded DNA molecule that is being copied; serves as a template. |
| Leading Strand | New DNA strand that is built continuously. |
| Lagging Strand | New DNA strand that is built in pieces of fragments that will be connected. |
| DNA Polymerase (Enzyme) | Builds DNA by adding one nucleotide at a tome in 5' and 3' directions. |
| DNA Ligase | Joins pieces of DNA together to create one continuous strand. |
| mRNA | Messenger RNA |
| Transcription | Converts DNA message into an RNA molecule. |
| RNA Polymerase | An enzyme that synthesizes the formation of RNA from a DNA template during transcription |
| Translation | Process of converting mRNA sequence (instructions) into a protein. |
| Codon | 3 nucleotides on an mRNA read by the ribosomes. |
| tRNA | Transfers RNA/Translator brings amino acids to a growing protein |
| Anticodon | 3 tRNA that are complementary to the mRNA codon. |
