DNA Replication
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| DNA Replication | Process of making an identical copy of the parental strand of DNA. This process happens in the nucleus. |
| Parental DNA | Original double stranded DNA molecule that is being copied serves as a template. |
| Leading Strand | New DNA strand that is built continuously. |
| Lagging Strand | New DNA strand that is built in pieces or fragments that will be connected. |
| DNA Polymerase | Enzyme that builds DNA by adding one nucleotide at a time. It builds in a 5' to 3' direction |
| DNA Ligase | Join pieces of DNA together to create one continuous strand. |
| MRNA | Is a messenger for RNA. |
| Transcription | Convert DNA message into RNA molecule. |
| RNA Polymerase | Enzyme that is responsible for making RNA from a DNA polymerase. |
| Translation | Process of converting mRNA sequence into a protein. |
| Codon | Three nucleotides on mRNA read by the ribosomes. |
| tRNA | A translator that can 'speak both languages' both nucleic acid and protein language. |
| Anticodon | 3 nucleotides on the tRNA that are complementary to the mRNA codon. |
