DNA Flashcards

DNA Replication -the process of making an exact copy of your DNA -takes place in the nucleus
Parental DNA -the original double strand of DNA -serves as a template for DNA replication
Leading Strand -made continuously; DNA polymerase stays on template
Lagging Strand -built in pieces that need to be joined together
DNA Polymerase -enzyme responsible for making new DNA strands
DNA Ligase -connects DNA fragments to form a continuous strand
RNA -Ribonucleic acid
transcription -DNA -> RNA -> protein
RNA polymerase -the enzyme used to hold RNA together
translation -process of translating message into a protein
codon -3 nucleotides on mRNA read by the ribosomes
