Chapter 18
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Chain termination | a DNA sequencing method that uses dideoxynucleotides to cause termination of DNA replication at random sights |
| Whole genome shotgun sequencing | an approach to genome sequencing in which the complete genome is broken into random fragments which are then individually sequenced. Finally the fragments are placed in the proper order using computer programs |
| Open Reading Frame (ORF) | a sequence of DNA thought to encode a protein because it is not interrupted by a stop codon and has an apparent promoter and ribosome binding sight at the 5’ end and a terminator at the 3’ end. It is usually determined by nucleic acid sequence studies |
| Coding Sequences (CDS) | in genomic analysis, open reading frames presumed to encode proteins but not tRNA or rRNA |
| Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP) | a technique that enables the identification of protein-DNA interactions |
