TermDefinition
Organic is a living thing or comes from a living thing
Organic Compound Compound in a living thing, must have Carbon in the compound
Carbohydrate compound that gives us quick energy
Lipid Fats that are Long term energy storage. They also make cell membranes.
Protein The major structural molecule in the body. They build muscles, tendons, bones, hair, skin, and nails.
Nucleic Acid Makes DNA, the instructions for cells.
Enzyme Protein that speeds up a reaction in the body.
Catalyst Any compound that speeds up a chemical reaction.
Substrate The substance that is being broken down or put together by an Enzyme.
Active Site The place on an Enzyme that connects to a substrate (like 2 puzzle pieces fitting together).
Optimal Temperature The BEST temperature for an Enzyme to work
Denaturing When an Enzyme gets too hot and it changes shape.
