What is matter? Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass.
What is an element? An element is a pure substance that cannot be broken down into other substances by chemical means.
What is a trace element? A trace element is an element that makes up less than 0.01% of your body mass.
What is a compound? A compound is a substance containing two or more elements that are chemically combined in a fixed ratio.
What is an atom? An atom is the smallest possible particle of an element.
What is a proton? A proton is a subatomic particle with a single unit of positive electrical charge (+).
What is an electron? An electron is a subatomic particle with a single unit of negative electrical charge (-).
What is a neutron? A neutron is a subatomic particle with no electric charge.
What is a nucleus? A nucleus is the central core of an atom where the atom's protons and neutrons are tightly packed together.
What is an atomic number? An atomic number is the number of protons in an atom's nucleus.
What is an isotope? An isotope is one of several forms of an element, each containing the same number of protons in their atoms but a different number of neutrons.
What is a radioactive isotope? A radioactive isotope is an isotope in which the nucleus decays (breaks down) over time, giving off radiation in the form of matter and energy.
What is an ionic bond? An ionic bond is a chemical bond that occurs when an atom transfers an electron to another atom.
What is an ion? An ion is an atom that has become electrically charged as a result of gaining or losing an electron.
What is a covalent bond? A covalent bond is a chemical bond that forms when two atoms share electrons.
What is a molecule? A molecule is two or more atoms held together by covalent bonds.
What is a chemical reaction? A chemical reaction is the breaking of old and formation of new chemical bonds that result in new substances.
What is a reactant? A reactant is a starting material for a chemical reaction.
What is a product? A product is a material created as a result of a chemical reaction.
