nucleus the central membrane bound organelle that manages or controls cellular functions

fluid mosaic model the model of the plasma membrane
phospholipid when a phosphate group replaces a fatty acid
plasma membrane a flexible boundary between the cell and its environment, that allows steady supplie of nutrients to come into the cell
selective permeability a process in which a membrane allows some molecules to pass through while keeping others out
transport proteins proteins that span an entire membrane and help form the selectively permeable membrane
cell wall a fairly rigid structure located outside the plasma membrane that provide additional support and protection
chlorophll traps light energy and gives leaves and stems their green color
chloroplasts are cell organelles that capture light energy and convert it to chemical energy

cilia short numerous projections that look like hairs
cytoplasm clear gelatinous fluid inside a cell

flagella longer projections that move with a whip like motion
golgi apparatus flattened stack of tubular membranes that modifies the proteins
lysosome organelles that contain digestive enzymes
microfilament small solid protein fibers
microtubule thin, hollow cylinder made of proteins
mitochondria are membrane-bound organelles in plant and animal cells
nucleolus prominent organelle
plastid where the chloroplasts belongs in a plant organelle
ribosome site where the cell produces proteins according to the directions
vacuole membrane-bound compartments
