Body Systems Ovrview

Primary purposes of body systems

TermDefinition
digestive system take in and break down nutrients
integumentary system skin and other outer tissue that protect the inside of the body from the outside conditions
muscular system causes movement
endocrine system creates chemicals (hormones) that regulate the internal conditions in the body
skeletal system provides shape for the body, protects the internal organs, makes blood and stores minerals
nervous system controls the rest of the body systems
immune system identifies and fights foreign invaders
circulatory system delivers necessary material to the cells and carries wastes from the cells
excretory system removes waste products
respiratory system takes oxygen into the blood stream and removes carbon dioxide
