Chapter Ten Biology Vocab/Sections One and Two

TermDefinition
Cell Division The process in which a cell divides into two new daughter cells
Mitosis First stage of cell division Division of the nucleus
Cytokinesis Second stage of cell division Division of the cytoplasm
Chromatid Replica of chromosomes
Centromere Located near the middle of the chromatids
Interphase In between period of growth
Cell Cycle Series of events in the life of the cell
Prophase The first and longest phase of mitosis
Centriole Tiny structure located in the cytoplasm near the nuclear envelope
Spindle A fanlike microtube structure that helps separate the chromosomes
Metaphase Second phase of mitosis, usually lasts only a few minutes
Anaphase Third phase in mitosis
Telophase Fourth and final phase in mitosis
