Genectics

TermDefinition
Phenotype The observable characteristic that is expressed or seen when two genes are combined.
Homozygous The organism that has two the same alleles for traits.
Dominant The trait that is seen most often when pairing organisms.
Genotype Two letter symbol (YY) that shows an organisms allele pairs.
Punnet Squares Used to make it easier to keep track of possible offspring traits.
Heterozygous Organism that has two different alleles for traits.
Genetics Study of how traits are inherited from generation to generation.
Recessive Trait that is seen less often or masked by another trait.
albinism a person or animal having a congenital absence of pigment in the skin and hair (which are white) and the eyes (which are typically pink)
allels Alternative form that a single gene may have for a particular trait.
pedigree the record of descent of an animal, showing it to be purebred.
cystic fibrosis wa hereditary disorder affecting the exocrine glands. It causes the production of abnormally thick mucus, leading to the blockage of the pancreatic ducts, intestines, and bronchi and often resulting in respiratory infection.
