| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| cell_cycle | three stages of life that a cell passes through |
| DNA | molecule that contains all instructions for making new cells |
| chromosomes | Chromosomes are thread-like structures that contain DNA and are located inside the nucleus of animal and plant cells |
| cell_division | prokaryotes - binary fission; eukaryotes - 3-stage process |
| binary fission | prokaryotic cell division; cell splits into two equal parts; each part contains a copy of original DNA |
| interphase | first stage of eukaryotic cell cycle; copies made of chromosomes and organelles |
| chromatids | two copies of chromosomes held together at the centromere |
| cytokinesis | third stage or eukaryotic cell cycle;cytoplasm divides to form two identical daughter cells |
| 4_Stages_of_Mitosis | prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telephase |
| mitosis | process during which body cells are duplicated to allow organisms to grow and repair damaged tissue |
| meisos | process during which sex cells are dupilicated |
