| Electron Microscope | uses a beam of electrons instead of light to produce a magnified image |
| Organelles | tiny cell structures that carry out specific functions for the cell |
| Cell membrane | controls what substances go in and out of the cell |
| Nucleus | the cell’s control center |
| Chromatin | contain genetic material that instructs the cell how grow and reproduce |
| Mitochondria | Mitochondria are known as the “powerhouse” of the cells because they convert energy in convert food molecules to energy the cells can use to carry out its functions |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | carry proteins and other materials from one part of the cell to another |
| Ribosomes | produce proteins |
| Golgi Bodies | receive proteins and other newly formed materials from the endoplasmic reticulum, package them, and distribute them to other parts of the cell |
| Chloroplasts | capture energy from sunlight and use it to produce food for the cell - plant cells only |
| Vacuoles | large water filled sac, stores food and other materials |
| Lysosomes | “Cleanup crew” round structures containing chemicals that breakdown materials |
