Physiology
Chapter 1
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Neurons | Transmit Signals for communication |
| Skeletal, Smooth, Cardiac | Voluntary, involuntary, involuntary |
| Epithelial Cells | Functions as: a barrier to help protect from virus, bacteria, etc., and transport membrane. |
| Epithelial Cells location | covers external and internal body surface from mouth to anus |
| Connective Tissue Cells | most diverse*anchor & link structure of body*ex)bone & blood cells, fibroblasts(gives skin elasticity), fat/adipose cells |
| Tissue types | nerve, muscle, epithelial,connective |
| What are the internal and external environments separated by? | Epithelial membrane |
| External-internal exchange | External-blood-tissue fluid-cells (nutrients &O2)-waste unneeded material |
| Homeostasis-Temp,volume, composition | Temp ~37 to keep enzyme functioning, too much volume(edema) too little dehydrate, composition: (Fe conc, gas conc, Na conc) |
| Negative feedback | If a regulated variable decreases, system responds to make it increase and vise versa (self correcting) |
| Examples of Negative feedback | Blood pressure increasing, person laying down, BP normal, he gets up then BP falls. BP receptors stimulated, increasing heart rate and increasing BP |
| Positive feedback | If something increases, the + feedback will increase more. Only 2 types & they happen in female's body |
| Examples of Positive feedback | 1.Pituitary gland (LH secretion) & Ovaries (increase estrogen secretion). Those 2 increase and increase until ovulation and then it decreases 2.labor(triggering contraction, the more Oxytocin the stronger the contraction |
