| Recombinant DNA | DNA that contains genes from multiple organisms |
| Transgenic | An organism that has one or more genes from another organism inserted into its genome |
| Gene sequencing | Determining the order of DNA nucleotides in genes |
| Human Genome Project | A map and sequence of human genetic coding and identifying all the genes in the sequence |
| Genetic screening | Testing a person's DNA to determine their risk of having or passing a long a genetic disorder |
| Gene therapy | The replacement, addition, or deletion of defective genes into a genome to treat a disease |
| Restriction enzyme | Enzymes that cut DNA at specific nucleotide sequences |
| Gel electrophoresis | Using an electrical current to separate DNA fragments from each other by size |
| Bioinformatics | Using computer databases to organize and analyze biological data |
| Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) | A chain reaction that quickly produces millions of copies of DNA sequences |
