| chromosome | long, continuous thread of DNA that consists of numerous genes and regulatory information. |
| dihybrid | cross, or mating, between organisms involving two pairs of contrasting traits |
| genotype | collection of all of an organism's genetic information that codes for traits |
| genome | all of an organism's genetic material |
| homologous | chromosomes that have the same lent, appearance, and copies of genes, although the alleles may differ |
| monohybrid | cross, or mating between organisms that involves only one pair of contrasting traits |
| purebred | type of organisms whose ancestors are genetically uniform |
| recessive | allele that is not expressed unless two copies are present in an organism's genotype |
| incomplete dominance | heterozygous phenotype that is a blend of the two homozygous phenotypes. |
| codominance | heterozygous genotype that equally expresses the traits from both alleles. |
| carrier | organsim whose genome contains a gene for a certain trait or disease that is not expressed in the organism's phenotype. |
| sex-linked genes | gene that is located on a sex chromosomes |
| polygenic | trait that is produced by two or more genes. |
