| Restriction Enzyme | An enzyme that cuts the DNA at a specific nucleotide |
| DNA Fingerprint | Used to identify an organism by analyzing the DNA |
| Genomics | The study of genomes |
| Gene Therapy | Replacement, addition, or deletion of a defective gene into a genome to treat the disease |
| Genetic Engineering | Changing an organism's DNA to give the a new organism the original organism's traits |
| Recombinant DNA | DNA that contains genes from one or more other organisms |
| Plasmid | closed loops of DNA in bacteria |
| Transgenic | An organism that has one or more genes from another organism inherited into its own genome |
| Genetic Screening | testing an organism DNA to figure out the risk of having or passing along a genetic disorder. |
