Clone Genetically identical copy of a gene or organism
DNA fingerprint It identifies an organism by analyzing DNA
Genetic engineering An organism's DNA is changed to to give an organism new traits
Recombinant DNA DNA that has genes from more then one organism
Plasmid Closed loops of DNA inside bacteria
Transgenic An organism that has one or more genes inserted into it's genome from another organism
Genomics The study of genomes
Gene sequencing DNA nucleotides I'm genes are put in order
Human Genome Project Map and sequence of human genetic and indefinitely al genes in the sequence
Genetic screening The act of testing a persons DNA to see how likely a person is of having or passing a genetic disorder
Gene therapy replacement, addition or deletion of defective gene into genome or treat disease
Restriction enzyme Enzymes that cut DNA into specific nucleotide sequences
Gel electrophoresis Electrical current is used to separate DNA fragments from each other by size
Bioinformatics Use of computer databases to organize ad analyze biological data
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) Millions of copies of DNA are produced quickly
Primer Short strands of DNA that acts as a starting point for new strands
