Meiosis

QuestionAnswer
Gene A gene is a structure made of chromosomes that determines certain characteristics of a person or other living organism.
Tetrad A tetrad is a group of four chromosomes that is formed at the beginning of Meiosis.
Haploid A cell that contains half of the chromosomes is called a Haploid
Diploid A cell that contains all of the chromosomes is called a Diploid.
Gamete A sex cell in either a male or female
Meiosis A type of cell division that makes four daughter cells.
Homologous Chromosomes A set of chromosomes that are about the same length, and centromere position.
Sister Chromatids A set of chromatids that are exactly identical to each other.
Chiasmata When chromosomes stay in contact with each other at the first stage of meiosis.
Crossing over A point at which similar chromosomes cross together and trade small amounts of DNA
Somatic Cell Any cell of an organism that is not a reproductive cell.
