Meiosis

| Gene | The basic physical unit of heredity. |
| Sister chromatids | A single chromosome is replicated into two copies of itself |
| Haploid | Having a single set of chromosomes. |
| Diploid | Having two of each type of chromosomes. |
| Gamete | Reproductive cell. |
| Meiosis | Cell division that produce gametes. |
| Somatic cell | Any cell of a plant or an animal other than a germ cell. |
| Homologous chromosome | Two different copies of a chromosome that diploid organisms inherit, one from each parent. |
| Chiasmata | The point of contact between paired chromatids. |
| Recombination (Crossing over) | The formation of new combinations of genes. |
| Tetrad | A group or set of four |
