Meiosis

TermDefinition
Gene The basic physical unit of heredity.
Sister chromatids A single chromosome is replicated into two copies of itself
Haploid Having a single set of chromosomes.
Diploid Having two of each type of chromosomes.
Gamete Reproductive cell.
Meiosis Cell division that produce gametes.
Somatic cell Any cell of a plant or an animal other than a germ cell.
Homologous chromosome Two different copies of a chromosome that diploid organisms inherit, one from each parent.
Chiasmata The point of contact between paired chromatids.
Recombination (Crossing over) The formation of new combinations of genes.
Tetrad A group or set of four
