| enzymes | are found in every cell in the body. function; to speed up chemical reactions enzymes are biological catalyts an example; amylase |
| amylase | found in saliva nd small intestine its breaks down starch into smaller units called maltose |
| substrate | substance on which an enzyme acts is called a substrate |
| product | substance formed as a result of the reaction is called the product |
| stages in nutrition | 1)eating; food taken into mouth 2)digestion; food brokendown into small molecules 3) absorption; digested food taken to bloodstream nd carried to cells 4) getting rid of undigested waste as faeces |
| digestive systme consists of | mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine |
| mouth (function) | phsical digestion by teeth chemical digestion by enzymes |
| oesophagus | carries food from mouth to stomach |
| stomach | food is mixed with digestive enzymes and churned |
| liver | produces bile |
| pancreas | produces digestive enzymes |
| small intestine | completes digestion digested food absorbed into bloodstream |
| large intestine | takes water back into bloodstream |
| teeth why? | we need to crush our food to make food smaller |
| types teeth | incisor, canine, premolar, molar |
| incisors | cutting and biting food |
| canine | tearing food |
| pre molar and molar | crushing and grinding our food |
