Anton Van Leeuwenhoek Among the first to recognize cells in animals
Robert Hooke Used a compound light microscope to study cork. Found geometric shapes and called them cells
Cell theory 1. All organisms are composed of one or more cell 2. The cell is the basic unit of structure and organization of organisms 3. all cells come from preexisting cells
Prokaryotes Do not contain membrane bound organelles parts include; Capsule, Cell Wall, Cytoplasm, Cell Membrane, Pilli, Flagella, Ribosomes, Plasmids, Nucleoid Region. Discovered by Anton Van Leeuwenhoek
Eukaryotes Parts include; Nucleus,Nucleolus,Endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi Complex,Lysosomes,Vacuoles, Plastids, Micro bodies, Chromosomes, Ribosomes, Microtubules, Microfilaments, Centrioles, Cilia, Flagella, Cell wall. Discovered by A. Van Leeuwenhoek
Eyepiece The lens at the top that you look through
Objectives Controls the power of the lens. Lowest to highest.
nosepiece Holds the high and low power objective lenses can be rotated to change magnification.
Coarse adjustment Move the stage up and down for focusing.
Fine adjustment Moves the stage slightly to sharpen the image
Diaphragm Regulates the amount of light.
