| Term | Definition |

| Population | A group of the same species living in the same area |
| Abiotic factors | Parts of the environment that are non-living (not dead, just never alive) |
| carnivor | Consumer that gains energy from eating only animals |
| Community | Multiple populations that inhabit the same location at the same time |
| Food web | A group of interlocking food chains that show multiple directions of energy flow. |
| Biotic factors | Parts of the environment that are living (or were once living) |
| Omnivore | Organism that gains energy from both plants and animals |
| Ecology | The study of relationships between organisms and between organisms and their environment |
| Ecosystem | A community interacting with the abiotic parts of its environment. |
| Predator | An organism that feeds on another organism |
| Environment | The surroundings or conditions in which organisms live or operate |
| Niche | The job or role of an organism |
| Prey | An organism that is fed on by another organism |
