ADP Adenosene diphosphate
Chemosynthesis Process by which ATP is synthesized by using chemicals as an energy source instead of light
Photosynthesis Process that captures energy from sunlight to make sugars that store chemical energy
Chlorophyll Green Pigment; Molecule in chloroplasts
Thylakoid Membranes contain chlorophyll, other light absorbing molecules and protons
Light-Dependant Captures energy from sunlight
Light-Independant Use energy from the light-dependant reactions to make sugars
Photosystems Series of light-absorbing pigments and protons that capture and transfer energy in the thylakoid membrane
Electron Transport Chain A series of proteins in the thylakoid membrane
ATP Synthase Makes ATP by adding phosphate groups to ADP
Calvin Cycle Process by which a photosynthetic organism uses energy to synthesize simple sugars from Carbon Dioxide CO(2)
Cellular Respiration Releases chemical energy from sugars and other carbon-based molecules to make ATP when oxygen is present
Aerobic Needs energy to take place
Glycolysis Splits glucose into two three-carbon molecules and makes two molecules of ATP
Anaerobic Does not need oxygen to take place
Krebs Cycle Produces molecules that carry energy to the second part of cellular respiration
