Cell Structures

Cell a membrane bound structure that is the basic structure of life
Cell membrane the lipid bilayer that forms the outer boundary of the cell
Cell theory this says that all living things are made of cells, that cells are the basic unit of structure and function and that cells only come from other cells
Cell wall A rigid structure that surrounds the cells of plants and most bacteria
Chloroplast A plastid containing chlorophyl, the site of photosynthesis
Cytoplasm the region of the cell between the nucleus and the cell membrane
Cytoskeleton A network of long protein strands in the cyosol that helps support the cell
Golgi apparatus a system of membranes that modifies and packages proteins for export by the cell
Lysosomes contains digestive enzymes
mitichondria powerhouse of the cell, produces energy from oxygen and sugar - cellular respiration
nuclear memebrane a double membrane that surrounds the nucleus
nucleolus located in the nucleus, where ribosomes are made
nucleus controls the cell, contains the DNA
organelle one of several bodies with a specialized function in the cell
organ seveal types of body tissue that together form a function
organ system a group of organs that interact to perform a set of related tasks
Ribosome an organelle that functions in teh making of proteins
tissue a group of similar cells that carry out a similar function
vacuole stores water and nutrients for the cell, very large in plants
vesicle a membrane bound sac that a contains materials involved in transport of the cell
Endoplasmic reticulum an internal membrane system in which components of cell membrane and proteins are constructed.
