Lesson 13
DNA and RNA
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Nucleotides | nucleic acids made up of three parts; a sugar, a phosphate group, and a base that contains nitrogen. There are five different nitrogenous bases; adenine, cytosine, thymine, guanine, and uracil |
| Purines | large nucleotide bases. Adenine and guanine are examples |
| Pyramidines | small nucleotide bases. Thymine and cytosine are examples |
| Chargaff’s Rule | in a DNA molecule the amount of thymine always equals the amount of adenine and the amount of cytosine always equals the amount of guanine |
| DNA Replication | process by which DNA copies itself |
