What causes injury to the plasma membrane? Lipopeptides, Polymyxin B
What are inhibitors of nucleic acid synthesis? Rifamycin, Quinolones and fluoroquinolones
What is a competitive inhibitor? Sulfonamides (sulfur drugs) inhibits folic acid synthesis
Antiviral drugs work by identifying viral proteins or parts of proteins and trying to disable them
What are some antiviral drugs during viral synthesis? Acyclovir (Herpes) Zidovudine (HIV)
What are some antiviral drugs as enzyme inhibitors? Protease Inhibitors for HIV & Integrase inhibitors for HIV
Tests to guide Chemotherapy? MIC- minimal inhibitory concentration MBC- minimal bactericidal concentration Antibiogram
Antibiotic Resistance comes from Misuse of antibiotics
Misuse of anitbiotics includes: using outdated or wekenend antibiotics Using antibiotics for the common cold and other inappropriate conditions Using antibiotics in animal feed, failing to completely taking prescription, using someone elses prescription
Synergism occurs when the effect of two drugs together is greater than the effect of either along
Antagonism occures when the effect of two drugs together is than the effect of either alone
