Cells Basic unit of structure and organization of organisms
Anton Von Leewenhoek Developed microscope (simple light) studied living things
Robert Hooke Developed microscope (compound light) studies dead oak bark and discovered and coined the name cells
Cell Theory Made up of three main ideas:1 all organisms are composed of one or more cells 2 the cell is the basic unit of structure and organization of organisms 3 all cells come from preexisting cells, proposed by Robert Hooke, Matthias Schleiden and Theodor Schwann
Prokaryotes Cells that do not contain membrane-bound organelles (no nucleus)
Eukaryotes Cells that do contain membrane-bound organelles (nucleus)
Eyepiece Magnifies the object 10x more than the objective lenses
Objectives 3; Magnifies the Object greater (4x,40x,400x)
Nosepiece Allows you to change the objective lenses
Coarse Adjustment Only used on low power to focus the image, it raises and lowers the stage
Fine Adjustment Only used on high power to focus the image further
Diaphragm Allowed you to adjust the light coming into the microscope
Stage Where the slide is placed to look at the object, it raises and lowers
