Bio Test.(:
| What are the five senses? | Smell, Touch, Taste, Hear, and See.(: |
| What is smell? | The ability to sense chemicals.(: |
| What is taste? | The ability to sense chemicals.(: |
| What is touch? | The ability to sense pressure.(: |
| What is sight? | The ability to sense light.(: |
| What is hearing? | The ability to sense sound waves.(: |
| How do we hear? | Sound wave enter the ear canal and travel to the ear drum. Then they strike the ear drum and make it vibrate. Those vibrations move through the ear and reach the cochlea. The cochlea moves in response to the vibrations, causing tiny hair cells to bend. |
| How do we see? | Light enters the pupil, and then to the lens. The lens focuses the light as it passes through the retina. The retina is located on the back of the eye and is connected to the optic nerve, which sends impulses to the brain. |
| What is the nervous system? | It controls all the other systems of body. It controls the muscles and maintains balance, your eyes and other sense organs, controls internal body systems, prepares your body for flight or flee, and helps you think, learn, remember, and use language. |
| How does the nervous system work? | By sending and receiving electrical signals. |
| What is a nerve? | A bundle of individual nerve cells.(: |
| What is a nerve cell that carries messages called? | A neuron.(: |
| What are the messages carried by neurons called? | Nerve impulses.(: |
| How many parts does a neuron have, and what are they? | 3: Cell Body, Dendrites, and Axons. |
| What's the cell body? | Contains the nucleus and other organelles. |
| What are dendrites? | They receive nerve impulses from other cells.(: |
| What are axons? | They pass the nerve impulses on to the other cells.(: |
| How many types of neurons are there and what are they? | 2: Sensory Neurons, and Motor Neurons.(: |
| What are sensory neurons? | They carry nerve impulses form sense organs and internal organs to the central nervous system.(: |
| What are motor neurons? | They carry nerve impulses from the central nervous system to internal organs, glands, and muscles.(: |
| What's a synapse? | The place where the axon of one neuron meets the dendrite of another.(: |
| What is the brain? | The control center of the nervous system.(: |
| What are the 3 main parts of the brain? | The cerebrum, cerebellum, and the brainstem. |
| Whats the cerebrum? | The largest of the brain. It's located on the top of the brain stem. It controls the functions that we are aware of. |
| True or False: The cerebellum is split into 2 hemispheres? | False.(: |
| What's the cerebellum? | The second largest part of the brain. It's located under the cerebrum and behind the brain stem. It controls the body position, coordination, and balance. |
| What is the brainstem? | The smallest part of the brain. It's located under the cerebrum and controls the basic body functions such as breathing, heartbeat, and digestion. It carries information back and forth between the cerebrum and spinal cord. |
| What's the spinal cord? | A long, tube-shaped bundle of neurons. It runs from the brain stem to the lower back. |
| What is the peripheral nervous system? | All the nerves of the body that lie outside the central nervous system.(: |
| What's the sensory division? | Carries messages from sense organs and internal organs to the central nervous system. |
| What does the motor division of the peripheral system do? | Carries messages from the central nervous system to internal organs. It's divided into 2 parts: somatic and autonomic nervous systems. |
| What is the somatic nervous system? | carries messages that control body movements. It's responsible for actions under your own control. |
| What does the central nervous system do? | Controls the brain and spinal cord.(: |
| What does the autonomic nervous system do? | Carries nerve impulses to internal organs. It's responsible for actions that you are not under control of. It has two divisions: sympathetic and parasympathetic. |
| What does the sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system do? | Controls internal organs and gland during emergencies. |
| What does the parasympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system do? | Controls internal organs and glands the rest of the time. It manages you digestion, heartbeat, and breathing under normal conditions. |
