SLS Bio12 Enzyme(SA)

SLS Bio 12Enzyme(SA

QuestionAnswer
Activation Energy Energy that must be added to cause molecule to react with one another.
biochemical reaction Process in which two or more molecules interact with help of an enzyme and make a product.
coenzyme nonprotein organic molecule that aids the action of the enzyme to which it is loosely bound
competitive inhibitor Form of enzyme Inhibition, where an inhibitor binds to the active site so that the substrate will not fit in the active site properly there for will ont work.
enzyme organic catalyst, usually a protein, that speeds up reation in cell due to its particular shape
enzyme activity The catalytic effect exerted by an enzyme, expressed as units per milligram of enzyme (specific a.) or as molecules of substrate transformed per minute per molecule of enzyme
enzyme concentration Effects the rate of product formation during an enzyme reaction. The higher the concentations, the higher the rate.
heavy metal Are inhibitors to an enzymes. They disrupt the normal distribution of electorns in the enzyme. Therefor decreasing enzyme activity.
induced fit model Change in the shape of an enzymes active site that enhances the fit between the enzymes active site and its substrates
metabolism All of the chemical changes that occur within a cell controled by enzymes.
non-competitive inhibitor A non-competative inhibitor is something that changes the shape of the enzyme temporarly. They bond to a spot that changes the active site shape there for it can not function.
pH Measurement of the amount of hydrogen ions in a solution.Measuring them as a base if they are bigger that 7 and an acid if they are lower than 7.
substrate concentration The amount of substrates in a solution where enzyme activity occurs. Effects the rate of formation, rate increased.
thyroid Located in the neck region, produces thyroxin.
thyroxin Hormone that accelerates cell metabolism. People with low thyroxin are overweight and have little energy.
vitamins Asssists enzyme functions. There are many types that will effect and help different enzymes. They are absorbed with food nutrients.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
