Binomial Nomenclature Modern classification that Linneaus developed to identify species
Genus Consists of a group of similar species
Specific Epithet Sometimes describes a characteristic of the organism
Family Consists of a group of similar genera
Order Is a taxon of similar families
Class Is a taxon of similar orders
Phylum Is a taxon of similar classes
Division Used by plant taxonomists instead of phylum
Kingdom A taxon of similar phyla or divisions
