cell the basic unit of the structure and function of living thing
cell theory all living things are made up of cell
community all of the population that live in the same area
competition a relationship between living things that depend on the same resources
ecosystem consists of all the living things in a given area
evolution a change in the characteristics of living things over time
gene theory the idea that the characteristic of living things are controlled by genes
homeostasis keeping things constant
natural selection some living things produce more offspring than others in turn passing down more genes to the next generation than the others
organ structure composed of one or more types of tissues
organ system a group of organs that work together to do a certain job
organism an individual living thing
population organisms of the same species that live in the same area
reproduction the process by which living things give rise to offspring
symbiosis a close relationship between organisms of different species in which at least one of the organisms benefits
tissue group of cells of the same kind
