DNA Structure and Function

DNA Deoxyribonucleic Acid; a molecule that is present in ALL living cells and that contains the information that determines the traits that a living thing inherits and needs to live
Nucleotide in a nucleic-acid chain, a subunit that consists of a phosphate, a sugar, and a nitrogenous base
Chargaff's Rule The amount of cytosine in DNA is equal to the amount of guanine. (And the amount of thymine is equal to the amount of adenine)
Double Helix The structure of DNA
RNA Ribonucleic Acid; a molecule that is present in all living cells and that plays a role in protein production
Ribosome a cell organelle composed of RNA and prtein; the site of protein synthesis
Mutations a change in the nucleotide-base sequence of a gene or DNA molecule
The three types of mutations substitution, insertion, deletion
Genetic Engineering Manipulating individual genes within organisms
