Interphase The part of a cell cycle during which the cell is not dividing
Mitosis Part off the cell cycle during which the nucleus divides
Cytokinesis The division of the parents cell's cytoplasm
Meiosis The type of cell division that produces haploid sex cells such as eggs and sperm cells
Homologous chromosomes Chromosomes that carry the same genes
Asexual Reproduction One organism produces one or more new organisms that are identical to itself
Sexual reproduction Two parents each contribute a sex cell to a new organism
Fertilization A sperm cell and an egg join together
Heredity The passing of genetic material from parents to offspring
Genes Segments of DNA found in chromosomes that give instructions for producing a certain characteristics
